Leaders do not lead tasks, they lead people. This often means, leading people who by nature are not equipped to move the leader’s vision along without tremendous management of skillset.
If only as leaders we could select our perfect team to achieve our utopia, the euphoria would be uncontainable!!! The reality however is that we often “get what we get” with no change in expectation…produce diamond from coal regardless of the pool of workers.
Great Leaders however have the unique ability to identify what individuals can contribute and even more importantly how to manage those skills to best meet organizational goals. A natural and positive consequence of this is the nurturing and building-up of members of your team to the point where together you all accomplish amazing fetes.
When this happens, be sure to give credit to your team members, be sure to praise openly and sincerely, and be sure to celebrate them. No great leader does it alone, so nurture those you lead and watch them produce!
